NFTs are typically diagnosed post-mortem through histopathological examination of brain tissue. However, recent advancements in imaging technologies, such as positron emission tomography (PET) scans with tau-specific tracers, have made it possible to detect NFTs in living patients. These methods are still under research and are not yet widely available.
