Transmission occurs through the inhalation of airborne spores from disturbed soil or droppings. These spores become airborne during activities such as farming, construction, or spelunking. There is no person-to-person transmission. The disease is more common in individuals who have frequent exposure to these environments, such as farmers, construction workers, and cavers.
