Histoplasma capsulatum is a dimorphic fungus that is the causative agent of histoplasmosis. It exists in a mycelial form in the environment and transforms into a yeast form at body temperature when inhaled by a host. This pathogen primarily affects the respiratory system but can disseminate to other parts of the body in immunocompromised individuals.
