What is Prevalence and Its Types?

Prevalence indicates the number of existing cases of a disease in a population at a given time. It provides insight into the burden of disease in a community. There are two types of prevalence: point prevalence and period prevalence. Point prevalence measures the proportion of individuals with the disease at a specific point in time, while period prevalence accounts for all cases during a specified period, including those that developed before and during that time.
