A bacterium is a single-celled microorganism that is a part of the prokaryotic domain. Unlike eukaryotic cells, bacteria lack a defined nucleus and other membrane-bound organelles. These microscopic organisms can be found virtually everywhere on Earth, from soil to water, and within the human body.
