The Broad Street Pump was a public water pump located in the Soho district of London. During the 1854 cholera outbreak, a significant number of cholera cases were reported in this area. Dr. John Snow, a physician, and epidemiologist, hypothesized that cholera was transmitted through contaminated water, not miasma (bad air), which was the prevailing theory at the time.
