What is the Relationship Between Hypertension and Cardiovascular Disease?
Hypertension is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD), including heart attack, stroke, and heart failure. Elevated blood pressure can damage blood vessels and organs over time, leading to atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) and other cardiovascular complications. The risk of CVD increases progressively with higher levels of blood pressure, even within the normal range.
