The Elixhauser Comorbidity Index is a method developed to assess the impact of comorbid conditions on patient outcomes. It was created by Anne Elixhauser and colleagues in 1998 and is widely used in healthcare research and hospital outcome studies. The index includes 30 different comorbidities identified using International Classification of Diseases (ICD) codes.
