What is Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS)?
Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome, commonly referred to as AIDS, is a chronic, potentially life-threatening condition caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). HIV damages the immune system, interfering with the body's ability to fight infections and diseases. Without treatment, HIV can progress to AIDS, the final and most severe stage of the infection.
