Several types of molecular genetic tests are used in epidemiology:
Diagnostic Testing: Determines if an individual has or is predisposed to a genetic disorder. Carrier Testing: Identifies individuals who carry a gene mutation that, when present in two copies, causes a genetic disorder. Predictive Testing: Used to detect gene mutations associated with disorders that appear after birth or later in life. Pharmacogenomic Testing: Analyzes how genes affect a person’s response to drugs.
