Adolescent mothers (under 20 years) also face unique challenges. They are more likely to experience complications such as preterm birth, low birth weight, and neonatal mortality. Adolescents are also at higher risk for preeclampsia and may face social and economic disadvantages that can adversely affect their health and that of their infants. Early childbearing often disrupts education and career opportunities, perpetuating cycles of poverty and poor health.
