Despite its advantages, GC-MS has some limitations:
- Sample Preparation: Extensive sample preparation may be required to remove impurities and concentrate the analytes of interest. - Cost and Complexity: GC-MS instruments are expensive and require skilled operators for maintenance and data interpretation. - Limited to Volatile Compounds: Non-volatile or thermally labile compounds may not be suitable for GC-MS analysis without derivatization.
