The Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) is a program within the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) aimed at training public health professionals in applied epidemiology. Established in 1951, the EIS is designed to provide rapid response to public health emergencies and to investigate potential outbreaks of infectious diseases, chronic diseases, and other health threats.
