What is HCAHPS?

HCAHPS, often pronounced "H-caps," is a standardized survey instrument and data collection methodology for measuring patients' perspectives on hospital care. It was developed by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) in conjunction with the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). The survey covers multiple dimensions of patient experience, including communication with doctors and nurses, responsiveness of hospital staff, cleanliness, and overall rating of the hospital.
