While GWAS has been revolutionary, it does come with challenges:
Sample Size: Large sample sizes are required to detect small genetic effects, which can be costly and time-consuming. Population Stratification: Differences in ancestry between cases and controls can lead to false associations. Complex Traits: Many diseases are influenced by multiple genetic and environmental factors, making it difficult to pinpoint specific genetic contributions. Interpretation: Identifying a SNP associated with a disease does not necessarily mean it causes the disease; further research is needed to understand its role.
