An example of respecting autonomy in epidemiology is the use of opt-in systems for participation in research studies. Instead of being automatically enrolled, individuals are given the choice to participate. Another example is providing individuals with the option to opt-out of certain public health interventions, provided that doing so does not pose a significant risk to public safety.
