Dizygotic (DZ) twins, also known as fraternal twins, arise from the fertilization of two separate eggs by two different sperm cells. This results in twins that share, on average, 50% of their genetic material, similar to regular siblings. Unlike monozygotic (MZ) twins, who are genetically identical, DZ twins can be of the same or different sexes and have distinct genetic profiles.
