Disability Adjusted Life Years (DALY) is a measure used in epidemiology and public health to quantify the burden of disease. It combines the years of life lost (YLL) due to premature mortality and the years lived with disability (YLD) due to disease or injury. Essentially, one DALY represents one lost year of "healthy" life. The sum of DALYs across a population provides an estimate of the total health burden.
