How is Burden of Disease Measured?
Several metrics are used to measure the burden of disease:
Disability-Adjusted Life Years (DALYs)
: Combines years of life lost due to premature mortality (YLL) and years lived with disability (YLD).
Quality-Adjusted Life Years (QALYs)
: Measures the quality and the quantity of life lived.
Years of Potential Life Lost (YPLL)
: Estimates the average number of years a person would have lived if they had not died prematurely.
