Sensitivity and specificity are often considered together when evaluating the effectiveness of a diagnostic test. While sensitivity measures the ability to identify true positives, specificity measures the ability to identify true negatives (those who do not have the disease). There is often a trade-off between sensitivity and specificity: increasing one may decrease the other.
