How Does Molecular Epidemiology Differ from Traditional Epidemiology?
While traditional epidemiology focuses on the distribution and determinants of diseases in populations, molecular epidemiology zeroes in on the molecular and genetic factors that contribute to disease. Traditional epidemiology might study the incidence of lung cancer in smokers versus non-smokers, whereas molecular epidemiology would explore genetic markers that make certain smokers more susceptible to lung cancer.
