How Does Droplet Isolation Differ from Other Isolation Precautions?
Droplet isolation is distinct from airborne isolation and contact isolation. While airborne isolation is used for pathogens that can remain suspended in the air over long distances (e.g., tuberculosis), contact isolation is used for pathogens transmitted through direct or indirect contact with the patient or their environment (e.g., MRSA). Droplet isolation specifically addresses infections spread by respiratory droplets, thus requiring different protective measures.
