How Do Genetic Effects Interact With Environmental Factors?
The interaction between genetic and environmental factors is critical in determining the risk of many diseases. This concept is known as gene-environment interaction. For example, a person with a genetic predisposition to lung cancer may have a significantly higher risk if they are exposed to environmental tobacco smoke. Conversely, individuals with a genetic predisposition to certain conditions may avoid disease if they are not exposed to triggering environmental factors.
