Arthropods transmit diseases through different mechanisms:
- Mechanical Transmission: Pathogens are carried on the body or mouthparts of the arthropod and transferred to food, water, or directly to a host. - Biological Transmission: Pathogens undergo development or multiplication within the arthropod before being transmitted to the host. This includes: - Propagative Transmission: Pathogens multiply within the vector. - Cyclopropagative Transmission: Pathogens undergo both development and multiplication within the vector. - Cyclodevelopmental Transmission: Pathogens develop but do not multiply within the vector.
