EIS officers have been pivotal in identifying the sources of outbreaks, such as the discovery of Legionnaires' disease and the elucidation of the transmission pathways of HIV/AIDS. They have also contributed to the development of important public health guidelines and interventions, such as vaccination campaigns and infection control measures.
