Population Suppression: This involves releasing male mosquitoes that carry a gene causing high mortality rates in offspring. This method aims to reduce the overall mosquito population over time. Population Replacement: This strategy involves introducing genes that make mosquitoes resistant to pathogens. As these genes spread through the mosquito population, the ability of mosquitoes to transmit diseases diminishes.
